Dixieland: The Forgotten Root of Jazz

Dixieland is the common root of all jazz styles that have emerged over the last 100 years,  Swing, Cool, Bebop, Hard Bop, Post Bopo, West coast and Traditional jazz all came from Dixieland.

Local music expert Stu Johnson will discuss the history of early Jazz and Dixieland music from its start in 1917 through Dixieland's demise in the 1950's. His fascinating presentation will include an extensive back story, homage to New Orleans, historic slides and delightful music recordings by several jazz and Dixieland icons.

A member of the Michigan Jazz Record Collectors, Johnson has presented jazz-related lectures at numerous libraries, colleges and organizations including the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors Convention.
